Lederhosen

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a short Lederhose and a Kniebundhose?

The short Lederhose ends at the thigh, clearly above the knee. The Kniebundhose ends with a band directly at knee height or just below. The Kniebundhose is the more traditional and formal option, the short Lederhose more modern and casual.

Which leather is best for a Lederhose?

Hirschleder is the highest-quality material: soft, breathable, very durable and moulds to the body. Rindsleder is less expensive, more robust and slightly stiffer. Both are good choices; Hirschleder is the lifetime investment, Rindsleder the solid everyday Trachten material.

Can you wash a Lederhose?

Never in the washing machine. Lederhosen are aired out, not washed. Stains are dabbed immediately with a damp cloth. Apply leather oil once per season. For heavy soiling, consult a leather specialist.

Are there Lederhosen for women?

Yes. Our women's Lederhosen have an adapted cut with more room at the hips and seat. They are mostly available in short length and are combined with Trachtenblusen or Dirndlblusen.

What do you wear with Lederhosen?

Men wear a Trachtenhemd, embroidered suspenders and optionally a Trachtenweste. Women combine a Trachtenbluse or Dirndlbluse. Trachtenschuhe or Haferlschuhe fit best. A belt or suspenders ensure the right fit.

Which size to buy for Lederhosen?

Measure hip circumference, that is the decisive value for Lederhosen. Do not buy too tight: leather stretches and trousers that are too tight when purchased will become uncomfortably loose once broken in. Do not buy too wide: leather only gives so much.

How much does a good Lederhose cost?

Good Rindsleder Lederhosen start from around 80 euros. For 100 to 180 euros you get a very solid model. Hirschleder models typically start from 200 euros upwards. In the sale after the Wiesn season, discounts of 20 to 40 percent are often available.

How do I care for a Lederhose correctly?

Air out after every wear. Never in the washing machine. Dab stains immediately, do not rub. Apply leather oil once per season. Store dry and hanging. For heavy soiling, consult a leather specialist.
