Frequently Asked Questions
Where do you wear a brooch on a dirndl?
The classic position is upper left on the bodice, just below the neckline. Alternatively at the collar of the blouse or on the side of the neckline. Always just one piece per outfit – more looks cluttered.
What are typical tracht pin motifs?
Classic motifs include edelweiss, gentian, stag, heart, clover and fir tree. Edelweiss is the most widespread Bavarian tracht motif of all and comes in many different styles.
Can you wear a regular fashion pin with a dirndl?
Generally yes, as long as it is subtle and does not stray too far from traditional forms. Very large, chunky or obviously fashion-forward brooches are less suitable. Small, classic pieces in gold or silver usually work fine.
Are handcrafted tracht brooches really more expensive and why?
Yes, handwork costs more time and skill than machine production. But handcrafted brooches in pewter, silver or bone also have a collector's value and a quality that industrially made pieces cannot match. They tend to last longer and are more unique.
