The Ultimate Oktoberfest Packing List: What You Really Need

Oktoberfest is just around the corner — and you don't want to forget anything? Whether it's your first Wiesn or you're an old hand: With our packing list you'll be perfectly prepared. From the Dirndl to the emergency kit — everything you really need.

The Outfit: Dirndl, Blouse & the Right Length

Of course, the Dirndl is the centrepiece. But which one? For the Wiesn the rule is: Midi length is the classic choice, mini works too of course. The important thing is that you feel comfortable — after all, you'll be on your feet all day.

For the list:

  • Dirndl (freshly ironed, practise the bow beforehand!)
  • Dirndl blouse — best to pack a spare blouse
  • Dirndl bra for the perfect décolleté
  • Comfortable shoes (ballerinas or flat Tracht shoes — no new shoes!)

Unsure about the bow? Our guide to tying the Schleife (bow) explains everything — including what each position means.

Jewellery & Accessories: The Special Touch

A Dirndl without accessories is like a pretzel without salt. Here are the must-haves:

  • Tracht jewellery — Kropfband (choker), Charivari or Tracht necklace
  • Hair accessories — flower crown, hairpins or a simple ribbon
  • Small Tracht bag — big enough for phone, money and keys
  • Tracht belt (optional, but a lovely detail with Lederhosen)

Need more inspiration? Our accessories guide shows you how to combine everything.

For Cool Evenings: Don't Forget a Jacket

Oktoberfest evenings can get quite chilly — especially in the beer garden. A Tracht jacket or a warm knitted Janker definitely belongs in your bag. Find out which jacket suits your Dirndl in our jacket guide.

The Emergency Bag: What Really Saves the Day

These things aren't glamorous, but they're worth their weight in gold:

  • Plasters & blister plasters — even with comfortable shoes, safety first
  • Safety pins — for loose blouses, torn seams or the apron
  • Hair ties & bobby pins — hairstyles rarely survive the whole day
  • Sunscreen & sunglasses — September sun is easily underestimated
  • Tissues — always. Always.
  • Power bank — your phone will die before you do, guaranteed
  • Cash — not every stall accepts cards

For Getting There and Back

  • Crossbody bag or backpack — for the journey there (jacket, umbrella, spare shoes)
  • Umbrella — small and foldable. Munich weather is unpredictable
  • Spare shoes — trainers for the way home are no shame
  • Snack for the road — a bread roll or muesli bar never hurts

What You Should NOT Bring

  • ❌ Large handbag (becomes a burden in the crowds)
  • ❌ Valuable jewellery (the risk of losing it is real)
  • ❌ High heels (your feet will thank you)
  • ❌ Too much cash (only as much as necessary)
