Dirndl Length Guide for Women: Choosing Mini, Midi and Maxi Right

The Midi Dirndl is the most universal length and the best first choice for most women. A Midi Dirndl with a skirt length between 65 and 85 cm works just as well at Oktoberfest as it does at a wedding or a traditional folk festival.

Why Midi is so popular: The length covers the legs a little without feeling restrictive. It looks elegant but not overly formal. A well fitting Midi Dirndl emphasises the waist, gives the figure structure and at the same time has enough skirt volume to swing beautifully when you dance.

Skirt lengths in the Midi range and their effect:

• 60 to 65 cm: Lower Midi, ends just above the knee. Still fairly casual, almost close to Mini, but noticeably more versatile. A good choice for athletic figures and younger wearers.
• 70 to 75 cm: Classic Midi, ends at mid calf or just below. This is the bullseye length, the one seen most often at Trachten festivals and never wrong in any situation.
• 80 to 85 cm: Upper Midi, ends at calf height. A little more traditional and elegant, yet less heavy than a Maxi Dirndl. Perfect for women who prefer to cover their legs.

For petite women under 160 cm we recommend a Midi between 60 and 70 cm. Longer skirts can visually shorten the figure. Taller women from 170 cm can easily wear 80 to 85 cm without looking compressed.

Tall women (over 170 cm): More leg room means more options. Long Dirndl from 85 cm look especially beautiful on tall women. Mini Dirndl are also very striking with long legs. The only thing to watch: standard skirt lengths can look shorter than stated on tall women, because their legs are longer.

Curvy women: Midi and Maxi are often more flattering than Mini, because they flow around the hips more harmoniously.
