Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Cannstatter Wasen?
The Cannstatter Wasen is Germany's second-largest folk festival, held annually from late September to early October in Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt. With several beer tents, rides and hundreds of thousands of visitors, it is the Swabian equivalent of the Munich Oktoberfest.
Is the Wasen dirndl different from the Oktoberfest dirndl?
Barely. A good midi dirndl is equally suited to both festivals. At the Wasen, slightly more traditional styles and regional patterns are worn more often than at Oktoberfest, but that is not a requirement.
Which dirndl length is right for the Cannstatter Wasen?
The midi dirndl between 65 and 80 cm is the most popular and safest choice. Mini dirndls are also well suited, especially on warmer days in September. For cooler October days a midi with a trachten cardigan is very practical.
When is the deadline for ordering for the Wasen?
By early September at the latest, to allow enough time for delivery and a possible exchange. Ordering between June and August is ideal. We ship within 1 to 3 working days.
Are there regional trachten traditions I should be aware of at the Wasen?
Regional trachten elements from Baden-Württemberg are warmly welcomed at the Wasen: subtle check patterns, shades of green and more traditional cuts. It is not required though – Bavarian trachten fashion is equally welcome at the Wasen.
